Website

Who are you? What do you do?
I’m Rebeka Rácz, sometimes Rebu Ceramics and I make crazy objects of clay.
Where are you from?
Budapest, Hungary.
Your style in 3 words?
unconventional, anti-boredom, thoughtful
Your weakness? Your strength?
The fact that I’m self-taught.
What makes you different?
That I have a theoretical background. I was studying aesthetics and theory of design.

When did you decide to become an artist?
I didn’t.
What do you find most fascinating about your work?
That there can be endless shapes and forms that I still can discover. That even if I get tired of painting I can reach out to the clay again and that’s something refreshing which requires a new mindset. This shifting makes me feel I will never get tired of this work.
A few words about your favourite creation?
My favourite pieces are the ones when I got lost in the creation and forgot completely what the original intention was.

Someone else’s work that inspired or inspires you…
I can’t say names – there are hundreds of images and ideas that inspire me constantly. There isn’t an artist, or a group of people I would highlight. A detail on the street, a sentence online or a face of a person can bring me inspiration. I try not to stick with one style or one way.
Who would you like to work with someday and why?
I can’t imagine working with somebody but I hope I will.
A new project coming up or an idea you want to work on?
Too much! Make crazy ashtrays and bookends, and combine photography with ceramics, make a zine. Just to mention the most recent ideas.

Finish the sentence „More important than my career is…“
To entertain myself.
2019: Where are we going?
We are marching quickly and straight into our end.
When the going gets tough…
Let’s just forget about it.
Put on your future vision glasses: What direction is our generation moving in, what will our world look like in 50 years?
Very hot! And the rich will be richer and poor poorer. But the only problem is that the ‘the rich is the poor’.

What would you do if you could change the World?
Actually, this is what I’m doing.
If the universe is everything and it’s expanding, what is it expanding into?
Me.
Tell us about your future plans…
It’s Friday, so later I go to some friend’s place for a birthday party. Than on the weekend I have to paint ashtrays and fire them. Arrange invoices and do the shipping. In summer, I want to spend a lot of time in the sun. In the autumn, I want to exhibit my work in my hometown. I want to spend winter in some warm place. I don’t have more plans.

Your city’s favourite spots?
Maybe the swimming pool on the Margaret Island. And my flat.
Last but not least: what is your favourite Song?
Until Exhaustion by Gosheven
One last statement please: „Wood or stone, gold or art?“
Golden wood and stone art on a plastic table.
