Who are you? What do you do?
I am an Artist/Printmaker creating fictitious places and remodelling existing landscapes through a process of collaging my own photographs taken on my travels, paintings, found imagery and printmaking techniques to make limited edition prints and originals.
Where are you from?
Brighton, England.
Your style in 3 words?
Otherworldly feeling landscapes.
Your weakness? Your strength?
I’m a bit of a perfectionist. I guess that’s both a weakness and a strength.
What makes you different?
I don’t believe anything does, but then strangely, I guess we are all different.
When did you decide to become an artist?
I always knew I wanted to be an artist, so went straight to art college when I left school and continued my creative education from there, which has led me to where I am today.
What do you find most fascinating about the creative process?
Seeing something that I’ve created digitally come to life on paper in the print studio.
A few words about your favourite creation?
At the moment, I think I’d say ‘The Rising Valley’ is one of my favourites. This print is made up of a combination of old 35mm slides that I found in a flea market that I then had scanned, and photographs I’ve taken in various places on my travels. I liked the ambiguity of using the slides and not knowing exactly where they had been taken.
Someone else’s work that inspired or inspires you…
Hokusai and Hiroshige – a lot of the artists from the Edo period and the Shin-hanga movement.
Who would you like to work with someday and why?
I can’t think of any artists but I’d love to go to Japan and do a Mokuhanga course.
A new project coming up or an idea you want to work on?
I’m currently working on a print for this year’s Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair and a new series of work where I am bringing more colour back into my prints.
Finish the sentence „More important than my career is…“
My family.
2020: Where are we going?
Who knows.
When the going gets tough…
Don’t give up.
Put on your future vision glasses: What direction is our generation moving in, what will our world look like in 50 years?
Hopefully in a better place than it is now.
What would you do if you could change the World?
World peace and end poverty.
If the universe is everything and it’s expanding, what is it expanding into?
I wish I knew!
Tell us about your future plans…
I’ve got ideas for some bigger prints and diptychs that I’d like to complete. I’m also looking forward to being able to travel again and gather new source imagery.
Your city’s favourite spots?
The beach, obviously. Workshopliving for great design and interior pieces and the wolfox coffee cafes for the best coffee in Brighton.
Last but not least: what is your favourite Song?
At the moment, Your Head Got Misplaced by Citizen and Excalibur by Mindforce.
One last statement please: „Wood or stone, gold or art?“
Wood and art.
