Who are you? What do you do?
I’m a fashion designer from London. I design clothes, and spend entirely too much time schlepping around the NY garment district.
Your style in 3 words?
Your weakness? Your strength?
Weakness? Too many ideas that never see the light of day. Strength? Mixing fabrics and colours well in the same piece.
What makes you different?
I try to create designs that will last instead of fading with the current fad. And I’m ambidextrous.
What do you find most fascinating about the creative process?
I still can’t believe how many different steps are involved in making a seemingly simple outfit.
When did you decide to become an artist/ musician/ designer?
I’m lucky – I’ve always known I wanted to do this, although I wasted a few years pretending not to.
A few words about your favourite creation?
I was working at Oscar de la Renta and was tasked with creating a dress that resembled a flower. I didn’t see it again and thought it had been thrown away, until backstage at the spring show I saw it on one of the models about to go down the runway. It was Oscar’s idea, but it still felt like my baby.
Someone else’s work that inspired or inspires you…
I feel lucky to have witnessed Oscar’s skill and work ethic first-hand. I’m in awe of the old school and glamorous way he ran his studio. Also, Stephanie von Watzdorf, who founded Figue, is an incredible designer has been a fantastic mentor to me throughout.
A new project coming up or an idea you want to work on?
I’m about to start work at ADEAM, a NY-based fashion house.
Do you have a vision?
To have my own label.
Anything disturbing your vision?
An occasional desire to be a professional beach bum.
Where are we going?
To go see Mad Max again.
