Kaeko Shabana

A Japanese photographer brings together this weeks Young Creatives column with our Japan Special…

Where are you from?

Osaka, Japan

What do you do?

Photographer and Artist.

Your style in 3 words?

Romance, awe, mystique.

What is your weakness?

Discontinuous passion for completing things.

What is your strength?

Unconditional love for people I care about.

What makes you different?

How I capture my subjects, how I see the world, how I project myself are incomprehensible to many viewers.  So I guess my being is very different from ‘generality.’

When did you discover photography?

Age 11. With my Dad’s contax and disposable  cameras.

A favourite picture or series?

This was from a project ‘Partially consealed’ that I did for my Senior show (top row, 2nd from right).

What inspires you?

Life.

Poetry.

Universe.

Science.

And love too.

Any new project coming up, you want to tell us about?

It is indeed clear to me that I want to do a project on the ecology of bees. In the summer of 2010, I was stung by a honeybee. Since then, bees intrigue me very much.
