Who are you? What do you do?

I am Charlotte Hilbolt and I paint.

Where are you from?

I am from Ramsdorf, Germany but live in Münster, Germany.

Your style in 3 words?

Colourful, abstract, gestural

Your weakness? Your strength?

I have a weakness for good food. My strength lies in my open mindset.

What makes you different?

I wouldn’t say that I am different. I probably have a different eye for colours than others do.

When did you decide to become an artist?

Throughout my studies at the Fine Art Academy in Münster I realised that painting is my strength and that is where I should lie my focus on.

What do you find most fascinating about the creative process?

For me the process already starts with building, stretching as well as glueing the canvases. But in the end it’s the accumulation of brush strokes happening intuitively on the canvases that fascinate me the most.

A few words about your favourite creation?

I cannot say, which painting I did is my favourite. But what I like in my paintings is the openness, the free form, their ability to give answers but also to ask questions, that they try to give space and possibility, to be everything, not only function but to exceed boarders of the describable.

Someone else’s work that inspired or inspires you…

I am inspired by nature, things I see, human beings I meet, food I eat and music I listen to.

Who would you like to work with someday and why?

I’d like to work with a gallery that supports my idea of what painting is.

A new project coming up or an idea you want to work on?

I usually paint on 155x180cm canvases but my next project is 200x200cm large canvases. But maybe also 80x80cm small ones.

Finish the sentence „More important than my career is…“

… the health of my family, friends and mine.

2020: Where are we going?

I am going straight forward. Painting.

When the going gets tough…

I take a deep breath and drink a tea.

Put on your future vision glasses: What direction is our generation moving in, what will our world look like in 50 years?

The world in 50 years will be on the high of the technological invention. My generation did everything possible to keep the green lungs of the world alive, fought for equality, made the world a more colourful, liveable place and we live in peaceful times.

What would you do if you could change the World?

Maybe to make people eat less meat.

If the universe is everything and it’s expanding, what is it expanding into?

My credo is that you don’t need an answer for everything.

Tell us about your future plans…

I hope that I have a bright future bringing me joy and love.

Your city’s favourite spots?

The Aasee, Friends places, my home, the academy, and so many more.

Last but not least: what is your favourite Song?

Currently: Abusey Junction by KOKOROKO & Anti-Pionieer by Feist

One last statement please: „Wood or stone, gold or art?“
