Who are you? What do you do?

I have many names. I perform and direct porn under the name Poppy Cox but when I work for other people, I use my real name. I make costumes for my performances and myself. My performance work is usually centered around feminism, femininity and sexuality. I also like to bring a lot of playful, DIY elements and work a lot with the concept of ‘availabilism’. By designing costumes and props for film and theatre, as well as working in fashion I also help other people realise their visions. I’m the creative director of Bike Smut, which is an independent touring film festival of erotic bicycle movies.

Your style in 3 words?

Ridiculous, unashamed, playful. Your weakness? Your strength? Weakness: I need deadlines to create. Strength: I work great to deadlines. What makes you different? I don’t feel like I fit into any one scene, but can adapt my work to many.

What do you find most fascinating about the creative process?

That limitations almost always make for the best results.

When did you decide to become a costumer and performer?

I don’t feel like I ever had a choice. Being creative is just the only way I can survive.

A few words about your favourite creation?

My favourite creation is always changing. I was really happy with a set of Tetris shapes I finished this fall and performed with on the streets of Berlin. It was a vision of mine for a few years, but I was on tour with Bike Smut for a while, so could only just final realise my vision, and it was lots of fun!

Someone else’s work that inspired or inspires you?

There are so many, but someone who should get more credit in this lifetime is the London-based performance artist Fancy Chance.

A new project coming up or an idea you want to work on?

Currently working a on a few music-based performance projects. One is a country music duo, Poppy and Willy Coxon. We have matching western suits and be singing country duets in Berlin soon.

Do you have a vision?

Yes, I’m just not sure how to get there yet. Anything disturbing your vision? Too many emails. Where are we going? To a pile of plastic trash. Anything else? Ride a bike.

Your favourite spots in Berlin?

Sameheads (shop, gallery, bar). Monster Ronsons Karaoke. Exit Shop and the Carni Closet.
